About

Capt. Ben Thompson is a Northern California native and grew up in the country catching bass and bluegill with conventional tackle. As a teenager he dove headfirst into the world of fly fishing and never looked back. In his early days largemouth bass were the most easily accessible fish for him so he spent a lot of his time throwing streamers and topwater flies on local ponds, creeks and aqueducts.

In college he began spending a lot of time on bigger local rivers chasing trout, steelhead, shad and stripers. As his passion grew he began to travel in search of different fish in different places, and at age 19 spent an entire summer in Montana living out of his car, throwing dry flies at trout every day. He has since enjoyed trips to the Amazon for peacock bass, Hawaii for bonefish, and South Florida for tarpon. He uses information from different areas to improve his local fishing game and to bring in flies utilized in other areas to try them out on our fish.

Ben began guiding locally in 2018, guided in Alaska in 2019, and quickly took it full time. Now in his thirties, Ben lives in Chico and spends over 240 days a year guiding on the Lower Sac, Lower Yuba and Lower Feather for a multitude of species. His favorite target is pursuing striped bass on the fly on the valley rivers. He also guides for spotted bass on Lake Oroville with streamers, topwater and the float n fly. An extremely motivated individual, he has a strong work ethic and a desire to always put people on fish while having a great time doing so.
