He started guiding for trout on the Lower Yuba River out of a drift boat, shortly after he soon expanded to the Lower Feather and Lower Sacramento Rivers. Getting bored with the day to day grind of guiding for trout he began fishing for largemouth bass on his days off. Sneaking on to local bass ponds and combing maps for bank access for his float tube on bigger lakes and reservoirs. He developed a passion for bass fishing that only continued ounce he moved to Chico, California in the northern Sacramento river valley.
Hogan has sense become one of the leading innovators in bass fishing with a fly rod in California. Pioneering the Lower Sacramento River as a viable year round fishery for resident striped bass and becoming the first licensed Captain to guide fly fishermen for Striped bass on the Lower Sacramento River nearly 10 years ago.
He is co-founder of the California Bass Union and guides for striped bass on the Lower Sacramento River year round as well as Lake Oroville for spotted bass and various sloughs, puddles, and ditches for Carp, Smallmouth bass, and largemouth bass…AND if he has to trout.
Hogan is a Simms Fly Fishing Products Ambassador, a Costa Sunglasses Elite Ambassador, Scott Fly Rods Pro, Echo Fly Rods Pro, Air Flo Fly Lines Pro, Montana Fly Company Signature Tier, Waterworks-Lamson Pro, Marketing Director for Cast Hope, and a member of the American Fly Fishing Trade Association board of directors…as well as a father to two boys, member of the rock band Royal Oaks, Die hard fan and season ticket holder of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football Team, San Francisco Giants Fan sense Roger Craig was running the ship, home gardener, and husband to an amazing wife.
