John Fochetti started fly fishing on the Trinity River swinging flies for Steelhead with his dad and Uncle, for the longest time he thought it was the only way to fish for them. He began to broaden his horizons and started fishing all over northern california for trout.
John began working for Orvis around 2008 at the Roseville store, quickly he was asked to be the fishing manager of the Reno store. This is where his career in the fly fishing industry truly began. He started teaching fly fishing schools at the store and became an instructor for the Nevada Department of Wildlife. Working with NDOW and their angler education program John became interested in pursuing a career in Fly fishing.
Around this time he reached out to Michael Forester, the owner of Clearwater Lodge, which at that time was Orvis endorsed. John attended the Clearwater Guide school in 2010 and after was asked to stay on as guide.
In the early years of Clearwater he was still living in Reno and would guide Pyramid Lake and the Truckee in the winter months while staying at Clearwater in Spring and Fall. Throughout this time John became the head guide and even managed Clearwater Lodge for a couple seasons.
John worked at Clearwater for ten years honing his skills as a trout and steelhead guide and dialing in Northern California's waters including the Pit River, Hat Creek, Fall River, McCloud River, Upper Sacramento River, Lower Sacramento River, Trinity River and Klamath Rivers.
Around this time John left Clearwater Lodge and began working for AC Fly Fishing and continued to guide all of those waters, but moved back to Redding california where he saw a large opportunity to explore Shasta Lake.
John Began fishing Shasta Lake for bass and honestly fell in love with trying to dial in such a massive fishery. Over the past five years he has put countless hours on the lake learning its nuances. He now guides the lake in late winter to early Summer, and has even participated in numerous tournaments on the lake.
John now operates his own guide Service, John Fochetti Fly Fishing focusing on the waters of northern Califonia is a proud member of the California Bass Union.
